Feeling Not "Good Enough"? Here's What to Do

June 02, 20252 min read

Do you sometimes feel you’re just not “good enough” to be creative? You’re not alone! Many of us have moments when self-doubt creeps in, whispering that we could never create something worthwhile. But don’t worry. With a bit of encouragement and some fun activities, you can embrace your creativity with open arms.

Recognize Those Doubts

First things first, let's acknowledge those nagging doubts. Recognizing that it’s okay to feel insecure is the first step to overcoming it.

Remember, everyone feels this way from time to time, even the most accomplished creators. It’s just a feeling, not a fact.

Remember that creativity isn’t about achieving perfection; it’s about enjoying the process and expressing yourself. Next time your inner critic pipes up, gently remind yourself that it's okay not to be perfect.

You're on a wonderful journey of self-expression!

Try to Find Your Inner Child

When you feel stuck, think about how children create. They don’t worry about results or judgments.

They explore, play, and imagine without limits. Take a page from their book and let your creativity run wild.

Doodle, color outside the lines, or build with whatever materials you can find around the house. Let your curiosity guide you.

Build a Supportive Environment

Surround yourself with people who encourage and support your creative endeavors. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or online community, having someone to share your work with can be motivating.

They’ll help you see the beauty in your creativity when you might be too close to notice it yourself.

Don’t forget to create a cozy space where you feel comfortable being creative. A well-loved chair, some art supplies nearby, and a good playlist can make all the difference in inspiring creativity when you sit down.

Celebrate Every Small Step

Instead of focusing on what you think you can’t do, celebrate what you can. Every stroke of the brush, line of a sketch, or paragraph written adds up to progress.

No accomplishment is too small to be proud of.

Take time to look at what you’ve achieved so far and honor the effort and heart that have gone into your work. Remember, creativity is a journey, and each step is worth celebrating.

Turn Self-Compassion into Action

Practice being kind to yourself. Speak to yourself like you would to a friend who needs encouragement. Self-compassion helps us be more adventurous and open to new experiences.

When you leave self-judgment at the door, creativity flourishes.

Creativity can be an escape from everyday stress, a chance to explore parts of ourselves we often overlook. At Create & Escape™, we believe that everyone has creativity inside, waiting to be unleashed.

Join us at a retreat to dive deeper into your creative journey with supportive friends by your side.

MEET THE AUTHOR,
STEPH BLAKE

For years, I poured everything into building my business and raising my family—until I realized I lost a part of myself in the process.

I used to be deeply creative, finding joy in designing, making, and exploring new ideas.

But as life got busier, that creativity took a backseat to client work, to-do lists, and the daily demands of running a business and being a mom.

One day, I decided to slowly start creating again—just for myself.

I explored new hobbies to get a quick dopamine hit for my ADHD brain with no expectations or pressure. And everything changed.

Tapping back into creativity became a form of self-care, a reset button, and a way to feel connected to myself!

Now, through Create & Escape™, I help others rediscover that same creative freedom!
